Database Architect

Database Architects plan and design database solutions that are consistent with the company’s strategic

overall business objectives and technical architecture vision.  They are the most knowledgeable

database-related resources demonstrating a high degree of knowledge in the platforms, applications,

and database management systems they engineer.  They troubleshoot and consult with project teams

for resolution on the most complex technical issues or business situations and make recommendations

to improve or enhance existing architectural direction for future system offerings.  Database Architects

design and implement effective database security, protection, and integrity controls.  They plan,

architect and design cost effective database capacity management solutions.  They evaluate product

functionality, scalability, and maintainability for purchase recommendation and integration.  They

provide mentorship and oversight for Database Engineers and Database Administrators at IBM in their

respective technology areas.  They work closely with the development, operations, and SRE team to

collaborate on new solutions and communicate problem resolutions. They must also have working

knowledge of AWS architecture, HA and DR strategies, and an understanding of the managed services

approach for databases hosted in AWS.  They must also be motivated to integrate applications and the

database layer to conform to the CICD pipeline.  The candidate should be familiar with the DevOps tools

(Chef, Terraform, Jenkins, Git, and Nexus).

 

Itemized Responsibilities:

§ Database Architect plan and design database solutions that are consistent with the company's

strategic overall business objectives and technical architecture vision.

§ Database Architects are the most knowledgeable database-related resources demonstrating a high

degree of knowledge in the platforms, applications, and database management systems they support.

§ Database Architects troubleshoot and consult with project teams for resolution on the most complex

technical issues or business situations and make recommendations to improve or enhance existing

architectural direction for future system offerings.

§ They demonstrate advanced skills in the optimization of structured query language and other complex

ventures of a database management system.

§ Database Architects will plan, architect and design cost database capacity and trending solutions.

§ Database Architects design and roll-out effective database security, protection, and integrity controls

to the Database Administrators.

§ Database Architects manage new/existing technology vendor relationships and evaluate product

functionality, scalability, and maintainability for purchase recommendation and integration.

§ Provides mentorship and oversight for DB Engineers and Database Administrators and Engineers.

§ Actively collaborate and communicate with various technical and business teams.

§ Contribute to public cloud solutions for database implementations to be highly available, performant,

and operational.

§ Promote and implement automations that will enable self-service requests.
